In the heart of a botanical garden in the medieval university town of Marburg stands a majestic ginkgo tree, its roots reaching back over a century. Under its watchful, silent presence, the stories of three individuals unfold across three different eras (1908, 1972, and 2020), each shaped by an encounter with the natural world around them. A pioneering female botany student, a lovestruck young farmhand, and a neuroscientist adrift during the pandemic are drawn, in turn, into the tree's orbit, their private struggles and awakenings quietly mirrored by the life force surrounding them.

The Director
Ildikó Enyedi
Ildikó Enyedi is an acclaimed Hungarian director. Her first film My Twentieth Century won the Cannes Camera d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 1989 and was chosen as one of the 12 Best Hungarian Films of All Time. In 1994, Magic Hunter was selected in competition at Venice Film Festival. Her 1999 feature Simon Magus won Locarno’s Special Jury Prize, and 1997’s Tamas and Juli won Belfort’s Grand Prix. In 2017, Enyedi’s former feature, On Body and Soul, won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale Film Festival and has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Her recent feature, The Story of My Life was selected in the main competition in Cannes 2021.
